Robert Penn Warren (1905-1989), first poet laureate of the United States, was a poet, writer of fiction, and co-author with Cleanth Brooks of influential textbooks on literature. Morton B. King graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1934 and then received a master's degree in sociology in 1936. He became a professor of sociology at the University of Mississippi.
